Is the work of dance istructor right or wrong for you?

It was a day 2.12.2016 and our older students - two Catherines were speaking on theme "Dance Instructor: Is it right or wrong for you?" - yes, it is a job of teacher. They translated the first two interviews in the video with the same theme by Neon, Angelique Hanesworth and Tanna Valentine from dance institution World Dance New York. So is this job right or wrong for you?

The first video - interview with Neon

At first - people usually have different skills sets. So, there are movers. They easily learn, they can learn by eye, can see and feel the movement. They are usually incredible movers and can really surprise the audience.

Then there are incredible choreographers. Their imaginaition is really amazing. They can see moves in their head and connect them. Their moves are maybe a little stiff and graceless, but when they put their choreographes into hands of great movers, their moves alive and can retell the breath-taking story.

For the third - visionary. This guy can see what's the trend, create or recreate the movement, give it some of his passion, make them alive. Maybe he's not a good dancer. Why? Because everything is situated just in his head. But when he can make contact with a choreographer, it'll be really really amazing result. I'm recommending you to see this creation.

And last, we have teachers. For example there is some dancer, who is really good organic mover, but after 20-30 years nobody remembered him. Why? Because he dance maybe like a goddess but can't really teach and cannot give his students his dance experiences. He is just a dancer, a performer. But not a teacher. The same applies to other dance skill sets - visionary or choreographer can't really teach. But when the teacher is not such good dancer, but he can explain the stuff and has good experiences with dance - then he can be really successful. If you want to be a really successful teacher, you must have a good connection of all these skills sets with a hard work.

OK, so. I think, that's all about skills and abilities as a student and as a teacher.

It's right to be a dance teacher. But the most important on that job is to move your students. When you see him/her dance, it's such inspiring, that you start dance and start want to dance like he/she. Teacher must be well done educated (what's safe, basics of musik, history, dance history, how to teach different types of students). Good dance teacher understand his/her job and knows all the students. This leads to difference between teacher and mentor. Mentor is more like your friend - he knows everything about you, your dance problems, skills, wishes and ambitions. He provides you through tools you need to success. He inspiring you very well. Teacher has not this connection with his students. He just teach you and he doesn't care about if you like it or not. But both of them have your respect and trust. If they don't, they aren't good teachers.

Preklad: Je práca tanečného inštruktora pre teba alebo nie?

Dňa 2.12.2016 naše staršie študentky - dve Katky rozprávali na tému "Inštruktor tanca: Je to pre teba to pravé, alebo nie?"  - áno, je to o práci učiteľa. Dievčatá preložili prvé dva rozhovory vo videu (na rovnakú tému)  s Neon, Angelique Hanesworth a Tannou Valentine z tanečnej oranizácie World Dance New York. Takže je táto práca pre teba, alebo nie?

Prvé video - interview s Neon

Na začiatok - ľudia majú rozličné schopnosti a danosti. Takže, máme tu pohybových tanečníkov. Dokážu sa ľahšie učiť len pohľadom, dokážu vidieť a cítiť jednotlivé pohyby a prvky. Obvykle sú priam neskutočne rozhýbaní a publikum dokážu naozaj prekvapiť.

Potom sú tu zanietení choreografi. Ich predstavivosť je neskutočne zaujímavá. Dokážu pohyby vidieť vo svojej mysli a prepojiť ich. Ich pohyby môžu byť trocha stuhnuté a neohrabané, ale keď vložia svoje choreografie do rúk tých, čo sa skvele pohybujú, ich choreografie ožijú a dokážu povedať dych berúci príbeh.

Za tretie - vizionár. Tento človek dokáže odhadnúť, aký je trend, vytvoriť alebo znovuvytvoriť či zopakovať pohyb, dať mu istú vášeň, oživiť ho. Ale nemusí byť dobrý tanečník. Prečo? Pretože všetko sa odohráva iba v jeho hlave. Ale ak nadviaže kontakt s choreografom, vznikne z toho veľmi zaujímavý výsledok. Skutočne vám odporúčam vidieť tieto kreácie.

A ako posledných tu máme učiteľov. Napríklad si vezmime tanečníka, ktorý má veľmi vyvinutý set pohybov, no po 20-30 rokoch si ho nikto nepamätá. Prečo? Pretože možno tancuje ako boh, ale nedokáže naozaj učiť a predať svojich študentom jeho tanečné skúsenosti. Je iba tanečník, iba vystupuje. Ale nie je učiteľ. To isté platí aj o ostatných - vizionár a choreograf nedokážu učiť. Ale ak aj nie je učiteľ tak dobrým tanečníkom, ale dokáže dobre vysvetliť učivo a má kvalitné skúsenosti s tancovaním - potom má skvelý nábeh na to, byť úspešným. Ak chcete byť skutočne úspešným učiteľom, musíte mať dobré prepojenie všetkých štyroch setov schopností, k čomu sa dopracujete tvrdým drilom.

OK, takže. Myslím, že to je všetko o schopnostiach a danostiach ako študent a učiteľovi.

Druhé video - interview s Angelique Hanesworth

Je skvelé byť učiteľom tanca. No to najdôležitejšie na tejto práci je rozhýbať svojich študentov. Keď ho vidíš tancovať, je to tak inšpirujúce, že tiež s tým začneš a začneš chcieť byť (v tanci) tak dobrý ako on. Učiteľ musí byť veľmi dobre vzdelaný (o tom, čo je bezpečné, základy hudby, histórie, tanečnej histórie, ako učiť rozdielne typy študentov) Dobrý učiteľ tanca rozumie svojej práci a pozná všetkých svojich študentov.  Toto nás vedie k rozdielu medzi učiteľom a lektorom. Lektor je skôr viac ako tvoj priateľ - vie o tebe úplne všetko, o tvojich tanečných problémoch, schopnostiach, prianiach a ambíciách. Prevedie ťa všetkým, čo potrebuješ k úspechu. Veľmi dobre ťa dokáže inšpirovať. Učiteľ nemá až takéto spojenie so svojimi študentmi. Jednoducho ťa iba učí a priveľmi ho nezaujíma, či ti to vyhovuje alebo nie. Ale obaja majú tvoj rešpekt a dôveru. Ak nie, nie sú dobrými učiteľmi.
